Successful Marketing For Small Business Saturday

November 14, 2018 by Rick Pfohl

Saturday, November 24th is Small Business Saturday. A day to unwind from Thanksgiving and relax from the chaos of Black Friday. Small Business Saturday is reserved for small businesses to showcase their wares to holiday shoppers. This holiday isn't just for retailers, it is also for restaurants and other smaller businesses to celebrate being local and small. A lot of people are actually opting to shop small this year to avoid the chaos of Black Friday at the larger retail stores. You and your team should have a marketing strategy for Small Business Saturday because it could end up being one of the busiest days of the year for you. Before next week you should have this plan in motion to make this Small Business Saturday as successful as possible.

1. Head to the American Express website to sign up for their Shop Small promotion material.  American Express has several promotions running on social media, TV, and online ads for small business. They will also send you shopping bags and a sticker that certifies that you are Shop Small Small Business Member.

2. Use social media to get the word out! Social Media is one of the most affordable and effective ways to reach customers. Offer a small and free gift to the first 20 customers who walk through your door and send out the information beforehand on all of your social media channels.

3. Stay open late or open earlier on Small Business Saturday. For early birds, you can set out some coffee and pastries. For the later shoppers, let them warm up with some hot chocolate. Be sure to notify customers that you will be open earlier or later that day.

4. Host a charity event inside your store. This shows that your business is invested in the community. Popular holiday charities are coat drives and toy drives. You would be surprised what you can do with some wrapping paper and a large donation box.

5. Put out a coupon a week before that is only valid on Small Business Saturday. This could either be a certain percentage off an item, or you could give them a free gift if they have the coupon with them.

We at Leadership Peaks wish you a successful Small Business Saturday! Shop local and shop small.
